PCLOS Gnome 2008

I am pleased and excited to announce the release of PCLinuxOS Gnome 2008.
Totally new and redesigned! Increased speed, great looks and out-of-the-box usability have been our main concern
with this release!

Featuring: kernel 2.6.22.15.tex3, Gnome 2.21.2, Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.12, Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.9, Gnome office apps, GnomeDo, Me Tv, Serpentine, Brasero, Gnome Power Manager, Banshee Music Player and many more!

Many thanks to don_crissti, harryNID, and texstar for helping out in getting this really nice release out for you guys! :D

Hi,
Would you please mention a little on how it is different from the last version. Is it just the latest tex kernel or something else? I am using the last version (having kernel-2.6.22.15tex1). It would be really good if you mention the changes from last release.

manmath,

Here is the difference in the changes from the previous version:

New-> http://www.linuxgator.org/package_list.htm

And, you should be ok to with the upgrades if you prefer to keep your previous
install.

Thanks for asking!

If you have the time to look it over...You can see quite a difference in the two.

First of all, I will say that I really like the looks of PCLOSGnome 2008, love the black theme.

Secondly, I would very much like to know, that if I keep my PCLOSGnome 2.21.2 up to date through Synaptic, would I basicly have a PCLOSGnome 2008 installed, with the same funtionality and all?
Or is it better to do a fresh install?

I marked me the words "Totally new and redesigned!"

To me it sounds like it would be the better thing to do a fresh install with PCLOSGnome 2008?

That would totally be up to you! The new theme will upgrade soon. If you have your pc the way you like it.
It probably wouldn't be necessary to do so. (personal choice).
This is a rolling distro so the only thing that might be beneficial is some fixes, tweaks and
new apps that are not available in the repo yet.

You can easily do a remaster for your personal choice of apps and such.

That's what makes it so good! 8)

Question, why is 2008 still using GNOME 2.21.2 when 2.22.0 (Final) is out?

2.22 was released two weeks ago. It takes some time to build it for PCLINUXOS. Then it takes some time to test it and make sure it works ... many things there: compatibility with existing libraries, dependencies solving, also making sure that upgrading doesn't break stuff and so on. Then if all looks good the repos must commit the changes... etc
As you see it's not like building a notepad clone for PCLOS...
