mylivecd

Postby gnomerider » Thu Apr 26, 2012 5:15 am

I have MMXII installed and find it is everything I've ever wanted in an os. A big thank you to those who made it available.
Have a question concerning mylivecd. It shows up as installed in synaptic, but doesn't appear in the menus or control center. Thinking maybe I'm missing a dependency. Sure would like some help with this.
Also does anyone know what font pkg includes 'cantarell'?

Mylivecd does not have a graphical interface and it doesn't come with a menu launcher. It is a script that was designed to run from a terminal by the user root. You can create a launcher on your desktop from the right click menu. The command should be
gnome-terminal -e 'gksu /usr/sbin/mylivecd'

Can't find cantarell font anywhere?

Thanks ongoto. I tried creating a launcher, but the terminal only flashes for a moment and then disappears.
I remember creating some live cd's back in my pclos kde days and there was an icon in the menu and it worked fine.
Are there any other programs for this purpose?
Oh yes, I'm sorry in my haste I put my original post in the wrong section....announcements. Should have been entered elsewhere. Wish you could move it.
Thanks

The forum code thing is messing up the spacing in the text.

Here ya' go
You'll have to login as root to do this.
1) Copy and paste the following into Gedit.

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=true
Icon[en_US]=gksu
Icon=gksu
Exec=gksu /usr/sbin/mylivecd
Categories=Settings;DesktopSettings;X-MandrivaLinux-System-Configuration-Other;
Name[en_US]=Mylivecd
Name=Mylivecd

2) Saveas /usr/share/applications/Mylivecd.desktop

3) Right click it in nautilus and select properties->permissions tab and check the box [] Allow executing file as program (make it executable)

You should find it in the menu
-- Applications->More Applications->Configuration->Mylivecd

Mylivecd replaced the older version. It's all we have now. This will run using the default options. It you want more options, you'll have to use the command line in a root terminal.
Good luck.

Thanks again ongoto. I followed your example and an entry was added to the menu.
But it will not work for me. It flashes momentarily but will not load.

I know what it is. You don't have draklive-install. As a safety measure, Mylivecd wont run without that, because you would have no way to install your remaster.

Install draklive-install and draklive-config-gnome and see what happens.
