Re: How to use WINE with Irfanview, DVDShrink, and DVDDecryptor

OK. I re-installed PCLOS-Gnome using the 2008.1 iso file, connected my wireless then updated it to current.

Installed Wine, configured it using the standard defaults. Ran Vampire's script to confirm that the file was present, then installed Irfanview. Opened Irfanview, opened a .jpg photo and the same distortion occurred - exactly as before, no change. This is on my machine, the specs for which are listed in a previous message.

I cannot take a useful screenshot because the screenshot panels obscure the image, so instead I have taken a photo with my digicam and uploaded to a download site. You can view it by clicking on:
http://www.4shared.com/file/56271011/5382a282/WineIrfanview.html?

You can see the white panel in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, and below it, the image of the photo, badly distorted.

I have a feeling that we are running out of solutions, and maybe I should gracefully accept that this just ain't gonna work.

I followed your link, but it wants a password to let me view it.

Vampire

Uninstalled then reinstalled Wine; configured it.
Downloaded your version of Irfanview
Ran your bash script: file present
Double-clicked on your version of irfanview; installed it. As before, three idd icons get put on my desktop during the install:
1. Irfanview Thumbnails (panda is icon); this appears to work OK, although it only deals with thumbnails.
2. Irfanview.lnk
3. Irfanview Thumbnails.lnk
I didn't mention these before because I assumed they aren't significant. If you click on the latter two, you get a message about "Couldn't display [filename]"

Anyway, opened the news-linstalled Irfanview, and got the very same white panel and distorted image.

Have you tried the earlier versions as I suggested, or are you only trying this with the latest version? I only seem to have success with 3.95 and 3.97, the later ones don't seem to want to play well with me. If you haven't tried this already, hunt for an earlier version, the functionality is basically the same.

S_B

Happy to try an earlier version of Gnome, but I only ever install using Synaptic and the current repositories, so I haven't a clue how to install anything but the current Gnome-desktop (assuming that's what we're talking about here).

If you could give me some guidance, I'll have a go.

ON EDIT: Whoops, sorry. You're talking about versions of Irfanview, not Gnome.
I'll go searching now . . .

ON FURTHER EDIT. OK, I found and downloaded Irfanview3.97, Reconfigured Wine, inserted the file Mfc.dll into the Wine/drive_c/windows/system32 folder; double-clicked to install Irfanview 3.97, chose my options, completed the installation. I thought for a minute it might work because for the first time the proper icon for Irfanview appeared on my desktop, but when I ran Irfanview and opened a .jpg file, I got the same white rectangle and distorted image below.
