I will keep the 2008 version

about a year ago I have installed openSuse 10 on one of my customers PC and it was outdated at this point
already, but his PC was like 1Ghz with 256 ram and each Distribution that I had at this moment refused to
install.. he was happily surfing the net for one year, and this year he bought an new PC with Ubuntu.
Unless you have security paranoja the 2008 will serve you well.. and you must know there are tons of updates
for 2009.1 already.. :|

On recent versions of Mandriva and PCLOS, I ran into a problem with recognition of my hard drive, which meant the OS would not boot up at all (error report from bootup is below).I understood this was a problem with the kernel. Has it been fixed? If not, then I don't really want to install again.

Here is the last few lines of the terminal output, if I boot in safe mode:

Creating root device
Mounting root filesystem
mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root'
Setting up other filesystems
Setuproot: moving /dev failed: no such file or directory
Setuproot: error mounting /proc: no such file or directory
Setuproot: error mounting /sys: no such file or directory
Switching to new root and running init
Switchroot: /dev does not exist in new root
Booting has failed.

I understood this was a problem with the kernel. Has it been fixed? If not, then I am not going to download / install.

Hi all. Just to let you know that after what seems like ages of searching, I found an answer to this problem. See the thread below.

So I am now back with PCLOS Gnome 2009. Any chance of making this a permanent fix in the installer?

Hi,

Any chance to get to read about that solution ? The link leads to a page that only contains this message:
