Synaptic update/upgrade incomplete (GONE AWAY)

Postby SteveHoffmanUK » Wed Apr 29, 2009 6:04 pm

Had to reinstall using live-CD of pclos-gnome 2008.1,iso (the only one that works for me - 2009 hangs when I try to install my wireless network).

Tried the Big Update and it partially worked but not all changes can be applied. Using Synaptic I Reload | Mark all upgrades | Apply. After a long download of 1,026 files, changes are applied but some don't appear to "take" and when I try to cancel Synaptic I get a warning question about whether I want to quit with some changes not applied. I try reapplying and rebooting/reapplying but nothing happens.

I have also tried the terminal commands
Code: Select all
apt-get update
ap-get dist-upgrade

but get this error message
error: rpmtsOrder failed, 15 elements remain
E: Ordering failed for 15 packages

Is there any fix for this?

ON EDIT (April 30 2009): I tried to upgrade the next day (yesterday) and the update went through to completion; thus I conclude that there was some temporary glitch in PCLOS repros, although this may be an incorrect assumption. Anyway the problem (well, at least THAT problem) has gone away.

I have strong suspicion there is something like children go mad at each other at sandbox and then:
"you can take your ship.. and give me back my car.." :?
