I want to stop core.files from enter my home page. I think I need the configuration editor but its not listed in my menu. What do I need to download please?

You probably mean stop getting core files in your home directory. Search the forums as that has already been answered. About how to see gconf-editor in the menus: also has been answered on this forum.
