desktop effects {SOLVED}

Postby deetie » Thu Mar 24, 2011 2:40 am

I've followed all of the advice I can find on how to activate desktop effects to no avail :( . My graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce 6100 and desktop effects work fine on PCLOS KDE, Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Kubuntu and others. I have installed Drak3d. When I try to configure the video card I am told that there is a proprietary driver available, do I wish to use it? I click on 'Yes' and follow through the remaining steps in the procedure. On reboot, nothing has changed. I've also noticed that if I make any changes to the settings of the video card, these are not saved when I reboot. PCLOS is a brilliant OS and I would like to have it working, eye candy and all!

you need to install the driver from synaptic, do not download any drivers....

or install VIT package from synaptic, to help you install the driver you need

Thanks for the quick response :D . Have 2 drivers installed, both via synaptic, also have compiz installed.

:D I seem to have solved the problem. I was on the point of installing the driver from the nvidia website when I enabled the compiz-fusion icon. The video card refreshed itself and viola! Everything that should wobble does and the other effects are all present and correct. Hope this helps others - I'm very pleased! :D
