Synaptic Package manager not working? Can't update? Read ->

Repost

ibiblio.org which hosts the public file/software repository at no cost to the PCLinuxOS distribution recently had to relocate to different servers to save $13,500 dollars in monthly bandwidth costs. Due to this move the file structure for hosting the file repository changed. Please find below an updated sources.list with currently working file repositories. Please note this move was beyond the control of the PCLinuxOS distribution. We apologize for the inconvenience. Our next ISO releases will reflect this change. In the meantime here is how to fix the Synaptic Package Manager.

Manual Method:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/syn ... urces.list

You will need to download then copy the above file as root to your /etc/apt folder.

Automated Method (..run the following command):
Code:
Code: Select all
apt-sources-update.sh -w -s http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/synaptic/sources.list

After either method, you can then Launch the Synaptic Package Manager and press Reload to get current file listing.

PASS members do not need to do anything as the PASS server is not associated with ibiblio.org.

This is definitely helpful after a fresh install. :)

Cheers mate.

My updater ran this morning and I had 66 files updated. Firefox fails with the msg "Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections."
Also Synaptic fails as it cannot get a good checksum from the repository chosen.
I've updated sources.list twice, once from the speedtest app and 2nd from the Ibiblio url above........
Opera runs fine, Thunderbird runs fine. All seems OK except Firefox and synaptic/update-er.
I am running Kernel 2.6.38.8-pclos-1 no broken pkgs, no broken links....... ?

This thread is more than a year old. The link you found above is no good any more. PCLOS has renamed a section of the repo (kde4) to kde. That's breaking synaptic.

See this thread >>

Hint to PCLOS: Wouldn't it make more sense to upgrade the list contained in Slax's link above?? Isn't that the same link your in-house scripts use??

I just did an upgrade and noticed that there are several kde specific files added which seem unnecessary to me. Would it be a good idea to edit out the kde parameter in the repository section so that these files aren't installed? I ended up having 3 kde icons on my desktop as a result, and several kde specific files installed which we don't need as Gnome users.
