Installing CrossOver...

Postby brightbelt » Wed Jan 28, 2009 12:11 am

Hi,
I'm trying to install CrossOver, and it doesn't seem to be there at all in the Synaptic Package Manager. I've downloaded the RPM file but that won't install with a double-click (I do know that PCLOS's rpm system is not exactly like Mandrake; it just seemed worth a try).

I could use the terminal but I can't seem to get the directory right. Isn't
Code: Select all
cd desktop/filename

the way to get a desktop directory?

Anyways, I do appreciate any help on this. Many Thanks,
Frank B.

Hi Frank !

1. Though not recommended, installing a foreign RPM should be something like:
(let's say your .rpm is on your desktop)
Code: Select all
cd /home/frank/Desktop
rpm -Uvh nameofpackage.rpm

2. I advise you to wait a couple of days before trying that. Some people here are familiar with Crossover and Wine and maybe they'll drop by and tell you what's the best way to install Crossover and have it working OK.

Update...Thanks Don. I used your code and it seemed to work just fine. I've installed several apps through CrossOver so far now.

Just thought I'd report that your rpm code did work and CrossOver installed normally. Many Thanks, Frank B.
