Celtx and PCLOS

Postby Spaceman » Sat Jun 13, 2009 1:39 am

I installed Celtx from Synaptic in PCLOS Gnome 2009.1 and it works perfectly. So I googled Celtx and downloaded celtx.tar.bz2 from the Celtx website. celtx.tar.bz2 is Celtx 2.0.1.

Before I installed celtx.tar.bz2 I used Synaptic to completely uninstall celtx. Then I installed celtx.tar.bz2 according to the directions at the Celtx website and doubled clicked on the file called "celtx" to make it run. It's splash screen loads, I click on "start a new project", it starts to load Celtx and "poof" it's gone.

I asked about this problem at the Celtx forum and they don't seem to know what to do to make it work. Is there something special I need to do to make Celtx run in PCLOS?

It seems Celtx in PCLOS doesn't have comic book, audio play and audio-visual in it's menus. It just has screenplay and stageplay. That's why I decided to install Celtx from the Celtx website. Thanks for any help.

UPDATE

A few days ago I checked for upgrades/updates in Synaptic. There were several and one was for Celtx. I installed all the upgrades/updates but it hasn't helped the problem I'm having with Celtx. When I try to load a script into Celtx it starts to load and then just disappears.

Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this problem? I wonder if it might have something to do with permissions? Thanks for any help.

Working here? I build the latest one in the repo and tested it before sending it up.
Don't know what you have as you said you installed outside the repo the first time around
maybe remove .greyfirst folder or .greyfirst-bak and see if the splash will load.

Hi slick50. I did a complete uninstall of Celtx using Synaptic. Then I did a search of the root partition for files with celtx in their name. I found over 50 because I tried to install Celtx into Ubuntu Studio on a different hard drive in my computer and the search found those files too. Celtx 2.0.2 doesn't work any better in Ubuntu. Anyway, I deleted all of those except celtx@celtx.com in these folders in my PCLOS installation:

/root/.mozilla/extensions/

/usr/lib/mozilla/extensions/

/usr/share/mozilla/extensions/

/home/bruce/.mozilla/extensions/

I also deleted the package file celtx2.0.2-pclos2009. I discovered when I tried to reinstall Celtx from Synaptic that was a dumb thing to do. Synaptic tries to install Celtx but there's no package in /var/cache/apt/archives. How do I get Synaptic to download the package again so Synaptic can reinstall Celtx?

NEW UPDATE

I think I must have messed up this install so badly that I'll have to reinstall PCLOS so Celtx can work right. Last night I decided to make the ultimate sacrifice and install wine. I installed the Windowz version of Celtx and it's working now with no problems.

I'm going to keep working on this Linux problem and see if I can get the Linux version of Celtx working. I checked Download package only and looked at /var/cache/apt/archives to be sure celtx-2.0.2-1pclos2009 is there. It is. So I used Synaptic to reinstall Celtx. It looked like it reinstalled it but there is no Celtx folder in the user folder and no .celtx and .grayfirst folders.

It looks like Synaptic is doing everything except actually installing Celtx. Why would Synaptic download the package but then not actually install the program?
