Dragynn mentioned drag-n-drop from the Menu. This is an important point for a gnome/linux newbie. Always look first for your application in the Menu. If it's not in the Menu then you can follow the other pieces of advice given in the thread.

:D

Indeed, that's the easiest way, drag-n-drop it or simply right-click and choose "add this launcher to desktop", gnome 2 has most of the same functionality as windows, and should be fairly intuitive for ex-windows users.

Hi,

As far a I know, all desktops providing menus from a panel do. ;-)

Even Lxpanel from the Lxde project allows creating launchers in one click with the menu entries.

/me things : Dragynn uses Gnome only...

You say that like it's a bad thing, this is the Gnome forum Mel.

FYI, I dabble in Puppy and Slitaz as well, which both make extensive use of Openbox and Lxpanel.

I guess maybe you forgot that I have tested and provided some feedback from every Openbox, Bonsai, and Edu edition that you've made in the last year? And even made some artwork/wallpaper for said editions?

damn right I use gnome, nothing else comes close.

No offense intended, just the way you were saying it looks like "only Gnome offers this in the Linux World". :D

Hum... I am now putting up a version that mixes parts of Lxde, Gnome, and Openbox... it's for a particular purpose. If I succeed and can send it to the web for testing, I will submit it to you as well, incase you want to try it. ;)

Gosh, you caught me saying nice things about gnome and offering advice about gnome in reply to a gnome-user who had asked a question about his gnome system on the gnome forum. shameful.

Amen Dragynn.

That's just it!! The desktop is not supposed to be an 'application'. It's a place to launch applications from, quickly. Same goes for the panel. Even G3 provides an easy way to drag launchers into the favorites list for quick access. All the user has to do is move the mouse and click. Done. :)

Why anyone would want to scrounge around countless rabbit holes in a bloated DE, searching for an app launcher (or writing one), which should be right in front of them, is beyond me. :D :D

We luv u Mel....and Gnome too. LOL 2
