Why does my Synaptic upgrade manager fail to locate files?

Postby bonsaicult » Tue Jul 06, 2010 9:49 pm

Hi, I've just upgraded from PCLOS2009Gnome to PCLOS2010Gnome, mostly because I was unable to locate a repository to download upgrades/applications from, and lo and behold, same thing with 2010.
Just wondering if i'm doing something wrong?
here is a screenshot of error window from synaptic:

What do I need to do to correct this?
Thanks, C

Welcome to the forum.

My first guest form your post is that your system is not communicating
with the selected URL.

Some repos are down from time to time for various reasons
Try selecting a different REPO and see what happens.

Yes, choose another repo to try (unticking the one currently active, only use one at a time), and try one til you get a decent link. Isn't there a repo-speed testing tool with the full gnome-version?

Yes, tried the repo test tool, (very cool app), and it sets the first five repos' based on speed, but still can't find the app I am trying to install, Wine, trying to run an older first person shooter, UTGOTY, on my PCLOS, Ican run it on my other laptop running Ubuntu, but want it on this laptop also so I can play head to head. honestly thought I was

Mystery Solved......
I did indeed change the repo manually in synaptic whereupon I was able to find and install Wine.

I thought it was strange that an app like wine wasn't appearing as a package to install, oh well, thanks all.

I am a new user to the PCLOS Gnome forum, started using PCLOSGnome when I kept having trouble with PCLOS KDE 2009 release.

UTGOTY can be installed natively mate, doesn't need wine. :)

I install my copy on all my machines. Grab the linux installer http://www.liflg.org/?catid=6&gameid=51 , and the Bonus pack while you're there. I love my UT. :)

...Bonsai, make sure you UNCHECK the "http://---ibiblio.org....." repository in SYNAPTIC, and use ONLY ONE repo site when you "RELOAD...MARK ALL CHANGES...and APPLY" ! {...aren't we told NOT to use that repo?} I'm surprised nobody caught that....
