(Solved) Javascript error messages while browsing Facebook

Postby ka9yhd » Wed Apr 18, 2012 6:33 pm

I am using PClos Gnome 2010 fully updated on my desktop while using Firefox 11 and I keep getting these two error messages every time a page in Facebook comes up.

Error in getValue: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsIPrefBranch.getComplexValue]" nsresult: "0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://socialfixer/content/prefman.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 18" data: no]

Click "ok" and it comes up a second time click "ok" and I am good to go.

NOTE: This does not happen on my laptop using PClos Openbox 2011.08

Maybe Melodie will come along and be able to spot the differences in Gnome and Openbox. A fix may be as simple as installing a certain javascript library or something along those lines ??

Hi,
It does not look like a desktop environment problem, but more about Firefox or about Facebook.

I have put your message error in google and in ixquick.com, just this part:
[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsIPrefBranch.getComplexValue]"

I don't have a Facebook acount. Would you take a look here once logged in there ?
http://ro-ro.facebook.com/Socialfixer

maybe they have something about it, not sure (never know with search engines results).

Other things to try : start firefox in console with "--safe-mode" option, to temporarily deactivate your plugins.

One more : try moving your ~/.mozilla directory out of the way (rename it to .mozilla-back temporarily) and start Firefox again.

One more : try login to Facebook with other browsers : Opera, Midori...

And if at the end nothing works, would you go to the #firefox chan to ask advise from the specialists ?
the chan is #firefox and the server is irc.mozilla.org
https://wiki.mozilla.org/IRC
http://irc.mozilla.org/

I hope one of the above will help.

Regards,
Mélodie

Yes I have the Socialfixer plugin in Firefox 11 on both my desktop with PClos-Gnome and my laptop running PClos-Openbox.

Thank you for the suggestions I will try them and report back.

The latest update to Social Fixer 6.502 fixes the issue. I had to install the latest version directly from the Social Fixer web site because Mozilla's add on site did not have the latest version.

Thank you.

Hi,

I am happy you have solved it. I don't know what it was really about in fact... but this does not matter.
