What Now for Gnome/PCLOS Users?

Postby konaexpress » Mon Jun 11, 2012 3:20 pm

So I stepped away for a while in frustration with the PCLOS main site and check in here every so often. WOW!.....I mean WTF? :shock:

Has Slax or any one thought of rebranding the Gnome project? I mean, maybe use another distro? The separation from the main site seems to be even bigger now. I love the speed of PCLOS but come on.......

Who the heck needs all this cr@p? :shock: Has there been any talk about what to do? It looks like allot of good people have been kicked to the curb and are looking for a new home/distro.

HI Kona

PCLOS is a "Take it or leave it" one-man-show now. :D ..... with an extra forum or two :shock:

We're on our own ..... dancin' in tall cotton. :D

This is a real shame to hear but I had a feeling it was heading this way. Great people and a great forum over here but NO OS to speak of. My hope is that Slax will land on something for you/us for the future.

I'm just going to say it like it is. PCLOS has not gave a damn about Gnome or us for a long time, some of the Mods and KDE users just use this forum as a dumping ground. I would just kick the dumb @sses of the board and be done with it, find a new base to use. The problem is that most of the other distros already have a forum of their own, no need for one like this. Maybe some one should try to draft Jase to help out and fork PCLOS and use it's repos or switch to something else and keep this board.

I looked at Jase's board and I already am not sure of it. I like most of the people on it but ONE of them that starts with an A is a dipsh!t and looks to be running the board. I don't have time to watch the old users and Mods HATE BANG new users again, I ran into that myself on the old board.

The big site already hates this site so why continue down this path, when do we say enough is enough?

Don't kid yourself. Slax knows what's going on. Linuxgator.org is getting plenty of attention. We don't have 10 pages worth of posts every day like the main forum because we are not that type of community. To say we have nothing to offer is a little misleading. MMXII has received 1100 downloads. FMJ is just as popular (no way to get a count), and so are the others listed in the Announcements section. An upgraded MMXII is in the oven.

We don't care if nobody likes us. We don't expect or depend on their approval. Nobody has a HATE handle on us. We're aware, but not really interested in back-room politics, stereotyping, or any other bits of discrimination. PCLOS can't (or wont) even tell you who the devs are anymore. :shock: Those kinds of people have scattered like geese and here we stand. We've made the best of a bad situation and will remain the same people we were to begin with. As long as the PCLOS repo supports Gnome, so will we.

So hang in there Kona. Peace out and keep us posted on what you find out there. :D

Hmm; http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,106161.0.html, with this on Page 2 - http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,106161.msg907159.html#msg907159

I know how the Gnome people feel - maybe you might want a little bro like OB to keep you company? One small happy family :D

@ongoto Sorry guy if you thought I was saying that this site had nothing to offer the users, it does. I was asking more about contingency plans for when PCLOS has a total meltdown and as to why you put up with the cr@p that they post on here, that is all.

No apologies Kona. I realize you are just making observations. A lot has happened since you left. If you check the dates on posts you are referring to you'll see that they are old news. There hasn't been anybody on our case for some time now. The PCLOS house has been 'cleansed' and the melt down averted. :D ( Hell, there's nothing left to melt ) :shock:

Like I said earlier, the Gnome haters have scattered. There were only a few and they were dealt with at that time. Dragynn bounced a couple. The banned "A" one you mentioned uses nano. What can I say? :lol:

We're cool. 8) ... and we're stayin'.

Hi Konaexpress,

You should come along an join, the forum is currently filled with those that know me from PCLinuxOS - this is bacause I am yet to activly promote teh site (will do so soon - just gotta finalize some ideas) - it is a OS independent forum where you are encouraged to distro talk.

I would ask that folks dont judge folks on the forum as I want to offer a please where everyone (especially those that were perhaps prematurely removed from the PCLinuxOS forum) , The fella you refer to 'A' is an asset, and deserves as much of a second chance from others as I or anybody else does. I wont close teh door at teh forum to anyboy unless they are either obvious spammers, or those that are offensive to others on the forum.

As for the Gnome project, there is nothing to stop you guys debranding or perhaps even using the likes of Phinx as your base as it is already debranded, at the moment I am avoiding any direct involvement with an OS, other than the fact I am (re)learning NetBSD, at some point in the future however I MAY look at developing a rolling base that uses the "pkgsrc" system from NetBSD to provide 10000 + apps to users of that rolling base, that may well be off in the future though.

As for teh developers of PCLinuxOS, at teh time of my eviction from the forum and admin team, the core was staring to look like this.

Neal + OP = head developers
AS = kernels
Leiche= LXDE
Pinoc KDE
Archie KDE related stuff

I cant see why they are so non-committal about who teh team actually is

Re-base off of Phinx?.........That's an idea. Who of us has the ability to instal Mate or Cinnamon? :shock: What base is it using now? :?:

I have been thinking about what you have said and I understand, it is not easy to be a Mod. I know that I have made many mistakes myself in the past and I do believe that people deserve a second chance. But I also believe that an apology should come with it. Are we talking about the same person here? He goes by the name AndrzejL? The few times I dealt with him, he was a complete asshat with nothing to say or help with but to act like sheep and dog pile on users with the rest of the Mods at PCLOS. Is this the same guy who left here with the middle finger as his avatar as a parting gesture of good will?

Jase, I think you do/did great work for PCLOS but I think you took part of the cancer with you to your new forum. As far as the rest of your users like Parnot, dJohnston and the rest, I like them and have nothing but good things to say about them.

All of this just sucks. This is why I have stayed away for a while but keep coming back because I believe in the users here in this forum......

konaexpress,

Yes its AndrzejL or Andy as we call him. He would be first to admit that he can shoot first and look after, he has been very supportive of PCLInuxOS in the past and has done a lot more for the distribution than most realize, I trust him enough to be a moderator on the fossconvergence forum.

Everyone is entitled to get annoyed and get fired up over various matters ,and judging from the date of Andy's exit from here it was very much influenced/manipulated by events that were happening at that time.
