TV card configuration

Postby stilup » Tue Feb 19, 2008 10:48 pm

I cannot get my hauppauge PVR-500MCE dual TV tuner card to be reconized.
In the Control panel /Configurate Hardware it shows both Tuners
itVC16 (cX23416) Mpeg-2 Encoder
I tried to manually imput the correct number (3) for the card but not sure about what type ntsc standard for US
I try to run the configuration tool but nothing happens, when I try to set up the TV card it doesn't change from
NTSC
USA (broadcast)
user Nobody
I have cable TV but can't change it.
I try to change the user but nothing changes.

more help needed

Postby stilup » Wed Feb 20, 2008 5:23 am

Hi I had tried setting ntsc to M already but that's not enough to get it running.
I set the parameters as follows:
tuner ivtv I guessing at this one as is shows to see tuner.h for values and I see Misc Module:ivtv in the hardware
radio 1 the TV card has a radio included
ntsc M
debug default 511
ivtv_pci_latency default yes
ivtv_yuv_mode 1 progressive
ivtv_yuv_threshold default 480
all buffers are set to default
newi2c autodetect default
ivtv_first_minor I don't know what to set here it shows in description
(Set minor assigned to first card)
I tried to find a wiki on configuring the card but can't find one.
Thanks

I won't mess with the system in trying to install myself but a driver is availible . http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Download

Update: Found updates in Synaptic for mythtv and trying them.
Recent update: no help with the updates.
Going to get to the bottom of this one. bear with me.

worikng on it

Postby stilup » Thu Feb 21, 2008 7:35 pm

I see in the mythtvos forum that one guy has tyhe PVR 500 and he is told to go to http://dl.ivtvdriver.org/ivtv/firmware.tar.gz extract the contents as root, copy them to /lib/firmware/ reboot and then the PVR 150 2 of them will be reconized then select Tuner0 for each card.
I ttried to copy them to the lib/firmware but I didn't do it through root and don't have permission.
I am new to the Gnome but had previous experience with PClinxos but I had logged in as root but I don't have that option with the Gnome. Or at least I can't find it.
I really don't want to go over my head and would like to update through the Synaptic.
Am I way off here. I'm thinking of burning the iso for MythTVos 2008 and just trying to get the TV to work and maybe learn something.
Any help would be appreciated.

still having trouble, I'm sticking with this Gnome whether I can get the Mythtv to work or not.
In Synaptic I tried to install the dkms ivtv-0.10 cx23415/6 driver along with the ivtv-0.10 cx23415/16 driver and received an error the I needed to first install the Kernel 2.6.22.15tex1(i586)
I searched the repository in Synaptic and couldn't find it.
I don't want to go backwards with the kernel and will live without the mythtv if that is the case.
No more time got to go. back later.

MythTVOS

Postby CtrlAltDel » Mon Apr 14, 2008 9:29 am

Hey there Stillup..

Sorry I hadn't seen your posts earlier.. I rarely visit this forum..

You can log in as root ONLY to copy the needed firmware to /lib/firmware..

Reboot the computer immediately after copying the firmware into place and follow the instructions you saw on the MythTVOS forum for choosing the two tuner0 for your card..

Good luck,

Let me know if you had any luck getting yours to work.

I have a hauppauge PVR-150... still in the "same boat as you", but once I get it to recognize these few settings, its pretty much it from there...

Ctrl-Alt-Del is a great guy and sure to steer you in the right direction. He has helped me out tons! :D

Hi guys,

I am having a similar problem with my TV card which is from Skymaster (German Company) and although the card is being recognised it still give an error message in both "Kaffeine" and "Me-TV" saying that it cannot tune the card, I chose Kaffeine because it normally works well under Ubuntu (yes I do know that it is a KDE ap!).

I have all the necessary DVB-T packages installed and like I said, the card is listed in hardware as PCI device #8 (although it is a USB device!), so I guess my question is: what settings do I need to make to get it to work?.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Skymaster

for start, would be nice knowing if she is supported in Linux
don't know if this link can help, I could not find any scymasters there, maybe she is there under another name?:
http://www.linuxtv.org/
from my experience with my SkyStar2 dvb-s card, they are work on top of an player, so if you have not the
MPEG2 codec in him, there will be no TV.. just as general information.. it was so in win you must have
an Player from CyberLink or InterVideo that provide the codec, and on top of that will any DVB software work.
So.. if you can watch an DVD with Kaffeine then at least this is resolved.. I think your card is not recognized
properly..

On the issue of doing things as root, I seem to recall seeing something in Synaptic that you can install to open Nautilus as root.

Here's some info. I haven't installed it/tried it....
My PCLinuxOS system may be small, but it's perfectly formed. Compaq iPaq desktop PIII 1ghz with 512mb & a 20gb hdd. What more could you need? Machine# 403801 at Linux Counter.

There's no need to surf the web to get info on that package, just open synaptic and you'll find it, along with the description.

Okay; the info that you requested is posted below; Kaffeine it is set to use device number 0 but I tried a couple of other numbers and it still won't scan. (well it scans but doesn't find anything!)

This device is supported by Linux because I have had it running with Ubuntu and a couple of other distro's no problem!.

Any ideas, thanks.
