The entire Libre Office 3.40 suite, Java and all. Works amazingly well and fast.
cups and cups common...pondering adding some of the most common drivers too.

Came out to 551 mb iso, but that's coming down from there, tons of locale/translations to be removed in the various packages that came with LibreOffice, got most of them already, but I found a ton more that I had missed previously in etc/gconf, at least 30 mb's (uncompressed) of xml files with full translations in every one...will have to be edited by hand, grrrr... , but can go back and do this on my slightly-mini version too, and should drop it down from 365 mb to 355 or so, will probably do that and swap Exaile back in for Deadbeef, and add some internet radio stations by hand for coolness factor, make it a nice round 360 or so.

Of note: Issue of conflict with Shotwell when using the gtk Aurora theme, Shotwell freaks out and locks up your computer. It's a known bug. Unfortunately Aurora is my favorite theme. Shotwell says it's an Aurora gtk engine bug, Aurora author hasn't said anything in two years, gnome went ahead and made it part of gnome anyway. Nobody is going to fix it apparently. yay linux.

Anybody know how to make gthumb open the import photos dialog automatically upon insertion of a camera?

Got probably 160 mb left to play with, guess I should include Nvidia and ATI proprietary drivers next.

Really want to get some kind of photo manager that will automatically import photos, and possibly do some basic correction, trying to set this up for your average joe-user to have everything convenient.

Got custom artwork for GDM figured out, but still can't get custom grub background to work, nor boot-up on custom plymouth splash screen, sucks, looks pretty cool too

That's why last iso didn't compress as expected, older kernel uses lzma, need the 2.6.38 kernels to be able to use xz...arrgh.

Went back for some more work on the previous 365 mb version, went scorched earth mostly on the docs file, eliminated some more minor baggage. Updated MyliveCD to Texstar's new version, clever work that guy does, he found some more unneeded files that could be excluded from re-masters, notably the apt cache bin files, over 20 megs worth on my machine. Initial new re-master: 352.2 mb (this is still the version with minimal progs, using decibel audio player, and kernel 2.6.38.7).

Going to swap in 2.6.38.8 next, have spent the better part of afternoon hand-editing schema files that are full of locale data that I don't need for this english only re-master. The liveCD I made with the initial 352.2 iso, is notably faster to boot than the last, the whole thing is just unbelievably quick on this older hardware.

Zen+plus 2011, take 486 gazillion *click*:

Latest is 384.4 mb. This is the 352 version with added progs and much much chopping. Hacked /etc/gconf down from 33 mb to 2.9, including 78 schema files by hand to remove localizations. cut some more excessive img files, some out of nautilus background tiles. got rid of handheld cursors. added Zenmap back in but the cuts offset that and some other progs, also edited Zenmap menu entry to read "zenmap" and added gksu to command so it will open as root after entering password (some features are disabled when running as regular user).

added .config file to etc/skel to try and maintain some extra settings on some progs when new account is created. Set default CD action to open Asunder for ripping. Set default DVD action to open gnome-mplayer. Photorec added. Clamav and Clamtk, updated and edited freshclam.conf. Streamripper and setup to record with Exaile. Kernel 2.6.38.8 bfs. Still using Firefox 4 and all programs from the earlier 352 iso. Cups added, also xterm back in. New mylivecd cuts some more weight out in /var/cache/apt. Everything configured to act as it should, installed to my old PIII laptop and it's like a new machine again, lol. Still runs nice and tight at ~120 mb ram at idle, quick to boot, responsive, menus come up way faster the first time, and everything is instantaneous after that. Nice suite of CLI apps, nice light selection of gtk GUI apps, all basic bases covered.

This is the fastest hard-drive install of linux i've ever used with one of the major DE's on this computer, it's like LXDE-quick, with all the extra perks and functionality of gnome 2.

Still using FF4, does have new toolchain and 2.6.38.8 kernel and updates up until about a month ago, but no other updates, using older xorg etc (which means it will still run on some older hardware new xorg doesn't support).

You need to do the aptupgrade if you want to use Synaptic, i've got a local repo for mine that works fine. Migrating this iso to new xorg not tested, might bork it to bits cool little standalone utilitarian OS, I carry a liveCD and a USB install around for use on other machines. This is what I run in my old PIII laptop too. This is hacked down to a state of fabulous minimalism, I re-wrote a ton of files to rid it of beaucoup extra mb's. It's very much an english only version now, don't know if it's even possible to add locales completely without restoring some of the gconf files and such that I hacked down to en-only status.

Still no proprietary video drivers added to this iso. I have now loaded Nvidia 260's on my box and they loaded fine and run well, the 256.53 drivers I usually use on this machine, did not want to install with the 2.6.38.8 kernel.

All jpegs and png's used in system have been shrunk for space, many extra themes, icons, faces, cursors and other detritus burned with Dragynn-fire.

Just wanted to say thank you Dragynn for a wonderful Zen remaster. The theme is great and it works like a charm and is fast.

I have been looking for a minimal Gnome ISO which could be completely updated without errors and that is what I have now.
After installing it into Virtualbox I tried updating it through synaptic but it complained about two X11-video-driver packages could not be retrieved from the server So I used the "update sources list" app, to find a different repo. This then pulled in over two hundred updates which installed without a problem. I then used Texstar's "aptupgrade script" and updated the system which thankfully did not pull in many packages.

Since then I have made a remaster of the system which is now 412.1 MB in size and am using it on a CD outside of Virtualbox to write this post.

I will be installing it to harddisk tomorrow and am considering making it my default.

I guess I should upload the 352.2 mb iso as well, it's even lighter than the "plus" iso as it doesn't have Clamav/TK, Asunder, Cups and a few others, also uses Decibel audio player instead of Exaile. But I think I might actually do one last re-master on it and swap Exaile back in (I really like Decibel for a simple no-nonsense player and it's super super lightweight, about 1 mb compared to Exaile's 10 mb, but it doesn't do internet streaming radio which I use a lot, for those who don't stream radio and like minimalist players though, Decibel is awesome). Also the 352 doesn't have all the last of the hand-cut files in it as I did those while re-mastering the plus iso. So even with swapping Exaile back in, I still think i'll get a net reduction in size, likely come in at around 340-345 mb.

This iso, is basically the same as the plus iso, 2.6.38.8 bfs kernel and FF 4, with these differences:

Decibel is the audio player instead of Exaile.

This iso has an updated repo sources.list, which are the most recent and fastest as measured from where i'm at in Texas, YMMV, run sources update again if there's any question.

This iso has had aptupgrade installed, so new RPM, apt, and synaptic are already in place. I have not applied all available updates, most notably all the xorg stuff, do that at your own risk. Tarasin had no problem with it, it borked the install I tested it on earlier today (not one of these iso's, different re-master altogether), not beyond repair, but past my annoyance factor, so I trashed it and installed this new iso I made tonight. If you are running older hardware, you might want to give this a lot of consideration, if it ain't broke, do you really need the update? Nice thing is, a 348 mb iso takes less than 10 minutes to install, bork it and it's not a biggie, so test away

As usual, guest=guest and root=root, it's still english version, livecd is setup to autologin and assumes a US keyboard for faster boot.

I just installed the above iso on a dell latitude cpx, PIII mobile at 650 mhz, 256 mb ram, 4 mb ati video. tweaked the processes a bit etc. and it's idling at 98 mb of ram, haven't bothered to try video yet, probably be bad, but it's amazing that this old win 98 relic can even run!

Once again we see, that Zen is the key

I whipped that last iso out too quick, forgot to dot some I's and cross some T's, needed to have adjusted etc/skel to reflect using Decibel as default to open CD's and gnome mplayer to open DVD's amongst a few other small things.

Re-doing one now, also found an extra package or two that can be culled AFAIK, most certainly lilo doesn't need to be there, can't believe I missed that one. Still playing with removing Pulseaudio, all I need to figure out is how to get the gnome-volume-control-applet to work properly once Pulse is removed, i'm losing the icon and the system>preferences>sound GUI when I un-install Pulse. Adding volumeicon or Volti will get back a notification area volume control, but I hate adding packages when unnecessary, gnome-volume-control-applet is there, it's native, uses less ram....something is handing off control of the applet to Pulse, and making it go stupid if it can't find Pulse.

Anybody have any idea if the package "Migration Assistant" still does anything or is it just an artifact?

The FF19 iso, the last one I posted? Yeah, Filefront takes them down after a while, i'll re-upload it if you like, but remember, that one does use the older Xorg, so if you do a full update on it, it will change a LOT, probably 300+ updates. But it's a neat little standalone, I loaded on the laptop I mentioned and added one or two more programs, runs like a charm, great for plain ol surfing and listening to music, it's gonna stay on that one for sure.

The newer versions are based off Zen 2011.7, so have all updates and new xorg etc., all the re-masters in this thread are based on Zen 2010.10
