Help getting your video card working

Sorry, I haven't used the flv player myself, I usually go for Mplayer with a front-end as it plays most all video formats, i'm guessing most folks go that route, using Mplayer or VLC and such. Have you tried Mplayer? The gnome-mplayer frontend is nice and light, the SMplayer frontend is larger but very full-featured, and I find the Mplayer backend itself to be pretty robust and stable. :D

Yes, you can use VLC to play flv files

I usually download youtube clips, etc, with the Video Downloadhelper extension and watch them with Totem (usually). Don't ever recall having an issue with that way.
