I miss PCLOS. It became a dear old friend over the past few years. I'll be glad to get it up and running again.

Of the others, I'm most impressed with Pardus. But, since I prefer Gnome, I use Centos the most.

Well since gnome is history in the end of 2012 (maybe) I was playing with other window manager such as icewm and fvwm-crystal. fvwm-crystal is indeed lighter and faster than e17 but lack of goodies from e17. especially the usb automounting.

Anyone played with musca? Need help to install this wm on pclinuxos zen mini.

Hi, you have not tried Openbox standalone ? Here, the full presentation by djohnston:
New Openbox Editions Available

Automounting is easily configured from within PCManFM file manager.

What is musca ?

I did played with Openbox, this window manager is faster than KDE/LXDE but need more user experience. Well I used PCManFM but still need ivman to mount usb flashdisk.
one question why other pclinuxos flavors than KDE and Gnome cannot connect to internet using usb modem?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Musca it's a tilling window manager.

Normally not. All you need is setup the automount in the menu Edit/Preferences/ tab advances, in PCManFM, or just insert pendrive, open PCManFM, look in the left column and there click on the icon representing the pendrive and it is automatically mounted under /media. To unmount, you need to click once on the arrow which appears at the right of the usb stick icon, provided there is no application related to the mount point, opened at that moment. (console, or files being read by a program... )

one question why other pclinuxos flavors than KDE and Gnome cannot connect to internet using usb modem?

Because the drivers or firmware are not installed ? Look at "USB" in Synaptic research field in KDE/GNOME, with the default research options (name and description), make a list of what is installed and look in the other flavors : then come tell us what can be missing ?

While I am here, PCLinuxOS Openbox full is provided with Lxpanel this year, to make it easier for the beginners. And if you need to learn a bit more, there have been articles to explain what and how do your own tweaks in it, each month in the PCLOS Mag starting from last July.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Musca it's a tilling window manager.

Ok, I don't tile, so I don't know about the tiling managers. Taco.22 at the other forum had told me about a light one for Openbox that he likes very much...

@Melodie
PCManFM works fine on Openbox but it's not working with fvwm-crystal. I have to open gnome terminal and type
Code: Select all
ivman --nofork > /dev/null 2>&1 &
from here http://www.xaprb.com/blog/2006/05/20/how-to-auto-mount-removable-devices-in-gnulinux/

The usb modem it's not working in LXDE/XFCE/Openbox also the latest Zen Mini 2011.7 (my favorite). it's a huawei e1550. PnP on KDE 2011.6 and Gnome 2011 beta 5. dunno why it's not working with other flavors.

Try wvdial gnome-ppp also kppp beside net applet, still it won't connect me to the internet.

Thanks for your Openbox flava Melodie, I play with lots of conky script also using tint2 guide from PCLOS magazine. working like a charm. Especialy if using combination of xbar and cairo-dock.
Wish fvwm-crystal could do the same thing.

Solved. pclos now use eth1 for huawei modem not ppp0 anymore. Download it from here http://bloglinux-patenpisan.blogspot.com/2011/09/huawei-mobile-partner-linux-21003280003.html

Now I could dontal (download and install) package using apt-fast. Thanks melodie for developing PCLinuxOS Openbox :D
