Gnome2 local repo

Postby ongoto » Wed Nov 16, 2011 11:17 pm

Source:: http://ftp.riken.go.jp/Linux/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/

It the numbers in the second column represent file size in Mbytes ? then the entire 2010 section of the repo, including sources, would be less than 5 Gbs ?

I think that's in bytes... Those are only package lists

You are right. With my download speed this could take days. It's easy enough to set synaptic up to use this repo and get what I need. For an archive, I think I'll just buy the repo dvds that are available and leave it at that.

A couple of discoveries about the riken 2010 repo -- I tried installing task multimedia but synaptic refused. Missing depencency kffmpegthumbnailer. Task gnome was missing Tomboy.
After installing the dependencies from heanet and trying again, success. There may be more of these kind of things to deal with. It'll take a lot of testing.

2010 RPM's may be the issue. Will they work with new RPM 4.8? More conflicts in store I think.

I found some more 2010 repos. There might be more.

At first glance, they appear to be a little more complete?

There's an abundance of apps available in the 2010 archive. I've installed a ton of them and they work.

What I'm not finding is these:
aptupgrade
pkgutils
mylivecd
draklive-install
lomanager

lomanager was included in the original iso, but needs an upgrade for it to work. I did the upgrade from the official repo. If I had it to do over, I'd skip it. The upgrade drags in other upgrades I'd rather not have -- like glibc and others. Also, all the applets in the bottom panel disappeared.

With mylivecd and draklive-install installed, I can remaster, but can't boot the live cd. Stops at mounting loopfs and drops to shell which fails. Something must be missing.

You can grab mylivecd off of one of the 2010 iso's, as far as I know it's just a single script. Draklive-install will also be on the livecd, you should be able to pull it from there. The older mylivecd may work a little differently, I know for a fact that it doesn't exclude all the files that the new one does, the new one does a much better job of cleaning.

Your issue with the iso not booting, might have to do with the fact that PCLOS switched from lzma compression to xz in the mylivecd script this year, if you are using the new mylivecd to try and re-master a 2010 set-up, you might need to try forcing it to use lzma. The new 2011 isos don't even have lzma installed IIRC. And also, if you are using the new mylivecd, xz might not be installed on the old iso, in which case mylivecd would probably fail, it might look like it's going through the motions, but spit out an unuseable iso.

hmmm, don't know why pkgutils wouldn't be there...

Thanks Dragynn
That solved the problem with mylivecd. For kernels older than 2.6.37 you must use the --lzma option. You get less compression but it works.
