adding Compiz Control center to Gnome Control Center?

Postby gnomeman » Tue Apr 22, 2008 2:15 pm

Hey guys,
I was wondering if it's possible to add applets to the Gnome control center. I would really like to rearrange the menus of Gnome and one of the things that I would like to do is to add Compiz (Title it "Desktop Effects") to the Gnome control center under the Look and Feel section. I finally found the command to launch the Compiz Control center directly with out the need for the Icon menu. The command is simply [ccsm].

Anybody have any input on this one??
Thanks,
Chris

I'm not in my PCLOS at the moment but IIRC, you can find what you are looking for already in the regular app menu in Utility. This was in PCLOS-G-2008 and I won't see it again till I re-install.

azziam...I'm not sure I follow you. Are you saying that the options are available during installation of PCLOS Gnome?
What do you mean by "Utility" and "IIRC"?

Thanks

Sorry, IIRC is "if I recall correctly". By Utility, I'm referring to a category in the dropdown Gnome app menu. The compiz-fusion settings stuff won't be there till you have it installed. I hope I didn't steer you wrong. I'm D/L'ing the fixed OS now and might not have it re-installed till tomorrow evening.

Azziam,
OOOh..Sorry about that , I don't know the slang stuff too well.

I don't think I was very clear. I ment I would like to know how to add apps to the actual Gnome Control Center.
In Suse SLED version they have that Control Center menu down to a science. It's very well setup. It look almost exactly like our Gnome control center...but theirs has more apps in it....the apps that I want in our version. I was hoping that somebody might know how to actually add an icon and link in that Gnome Control Center.

Thanks
Chris

Sorry I misunderstood your question. I was mistakenly thinking of the PCLOS Control Center and wondered why you'd want to add apps to that! The Gnome Control Center is a nice layout and your question of whether/how apps/icons can be added to it is a good question. BTW, when I mentioned how to find compiz in the dropdown apps menu I mistakenly referred to "Utility>" where I meant System Tools>Configuration>Compiz> but I guess you figured that out. Now that I have the OS re-installed and nVidia and compiz going, I made a quick leap into the Emerald Theme Manager and got a new start on my customized setup. More fun to come!
