Remastering and boot options permanent fixes

Postby raveyd » Mon May 26, 2008 3:51 am

Slick / don_cristi,

Is there work going on to get a permanent fix to the issues with upgrading / remasterme / livecd and also the boot options where you have to put in all-generic-ide.

Personally I (and I suppose several others) cannot successfully remaster my system even when I install the fixes which have been proposed. That's a shame because being able to do a remaster is a great unique selling point for this distro. I also think the all-generic-ide fix in boot options is not a good introduction to linux for newbies. I'm OK with it - but I know that if I had tried linux for the first time and had to do that I would probably ditch it immediately.

Can something be built into these new isos (Gnome 2.22 and also the minime) to fix & test these problems with what is an otherwise perfect distro? 8) The fact that you have defined the workarounds suggests that you know what the problems are - can they be repaired permanently?

bump.

even if I "mark all upgrades" and then "unmark" mklivecd and module-init-tools, I lose the ability to remaster.

It is strange because I also tried it with the 2007 Gnome-Lite. With this version, I used to be able to upgrade and remaster with no problem (my "working" remaster is based on this). Now it doesn't work after upgrading.

what happens if you do upgrade mklivecd and module-init-tools?

raveyd... hopefully you won't get mad at me for this, but why don't you try the original MiniMe ? If that one fails to install a remaster too then I'm afraid you have to ask these questions on another forum. If it works then it is something I've done wrong and I will try to find out what's breaking the mini (our mini)
