SOMETHING UPDATED HAS BROKEN SOUND-SOLVED??

Postby joanmc » Thu Apr 16, 2009 11:42 am

Since installing PCLOS-Gnome 2009.1, my sound has been working nicely. Something in the updates in the past 2 days has broken it. Anyone else have this happen? Any ideas what might have changed?

In the meantime I guess I will be listening to the voice over my shoulder until the fix.. (Voice over my shoulder? Is of the other gender! :D )

Sorry , I am of no help to your fix..

I've done a clean install and full update as well as one that had a partial update to full update and my sound is ok. I can suggest looking in the Configure your Computer -> System -> Manage Users. Right click on your login name and click Edit. Select the Groups tab on the far right and make sure you are a member of the audio, video, cdrom, cdwriter and lp group. Restart your system and see if sound comes back.

No problems on four of my machines here. Updated fully, all working fine! :)

Well Texstar, don't have a clue what this was all about, however it worked. Thanks muchly! Now if I can just figure out what caused it along with a couple of other odd changes after applying updates from Synaptic on Tues & Wed......

Another example of why I brag about the great support we have for PCLOS-Gnome!

This is soooo bizarre. I will have sound then suddenly it disappears. Sometimes it will come back with a reboot and sometimes not. My first thought was something wrong with the sound card, however there is no problem running under Windoze XP which I've run much more often than I'd like just to check it out  Sometimes I will think it has come back because the computer sounds will be heard however once I go online there are no sounds generated from games on several different sites which previously worked fine. Other times, hearing the computer sounds signals the return of sound online and from CD/DVDs...... I'm totally baffled! :?:
